Principal Newsletter 2-24-23

Dear Cotopaxi Community,

It’s almost unbelievable that Spring is around the corner!  It’s a season I look forward to, as the temperatures warm up, and things begin to blossom and grow.  Each season is wonderful in Colorado, although Spring is always near and dear to my heart.  This past week we closed out our Girls’ basketball season.  The Lady Pirates finished their season 8-12.  Congratulations on your season, girls, and the P.R.I.D.E. you exhibited on and off the court.  Boy’s basketball is currently sitting at #25, and we will know this coming Sunday who they will play.  Exciting times in sports, always.  Good luck Pirates!

Give a warm welcome to Andree Wilson, our new Solvista Health clinician that will be providing services every Monday at Cotopaxi Schools.  Previously Cotopaxi’s clinician was Natalie Moore.  Natalie will now be serving the Salida area.  Ms. Wilson and Ms. Moore have been working on a smooth transition through the month of February, and Ms. Wilson will begin working with students on February 27th.  Although we are sad to see Ms. Moore go, we wish her well on her new adventures.  We also welcome Ms. Wilson to our Paxi Pirate Ship!

On Tuesday, students were rewarded for the previous week’s Random Acts of Kindness challenge.  Students that met 25/50 challenges earned a special treat, a donut.  Thank you students for helping to build a wonderful world, one random act of kindness at a time.

On Thursday, students and staff wore red for Go Red Day, in support of Heart Health Month.  Thank you Nurse Adams for organizing and spreading the word, and for Amber Canterbury for capturing this moment in time.

Next week, we kick off Spring sports, baseball and track! Our Town Hall meeting is February 27th, and we also have our RESPECT student P.R.I.D.E. assembly on February 28th.  Stay tuned for more PIRATE basketball as well.

Yours in education,

Jennifer Gonzales
