Principal Newsletter 3-17-23

Dear Cotopaxi Community,

Each week is full steam ahead for our Cotopaxi students and staff, even when Spring Break is right out around the corner!  First graders constructed leprechaun traps.  Our 11th graders spent time with an ASVAB assessment interpreter to review their results, and engaged in career exploration.  Our current 8th-11th grade students reviewed course options for the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, 11th and 12th graders previewed FMI course pathways. Students will be building schedules for next school year upon their return from break. Feel free to review the courses using the link below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13wjZUI19yzMqyGkS0EEQNlrSRP03IcJ6B7UOAljsivo/edit?usp=sharing

This week a few students and staff collaborated on our Profile of a Graduate work. Amy Spicer, Vice President-Implementation Design from CEI (Colorado Education Initiative), facilitated the next step in this exciting work...Prototyping! Having student voice is a large part of this work, and it was wonderful to listen to our students share about what they believe represents Cotopaxi Schools.  Students shared ideas about resources that would make them successful learners, and successful in their post-secondary endeavors. Community, opportunities, open-mindedness, perseverance, local resources, outdoors and wildlife, and P.R.I.D.E. are a few examples of what students implemented in their prototype visual. We are looking forward to this continued work with one another.

April and May will be upon us soon.  Looking ahead, CMAS testing, prom, field trips, field day, end of year testing, and more is on the horizon!  Please reach out to your child’s teacher for upcoming events, and/or our calendar that is located on our website.

If you are interested in volunteering or chaperoning we will be having an upcoming training on April 5th @ 6p.m. in the school cafeteria.  If you have already completed this school year’s volunteer/chaperone training you do not need to attend again.  A volunteer application, fingerprints and/or background check is also required if you’d like to volunteer.  You can access the volunteer application here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wxk175dr4jhPywu19SeopTXx0agSpyPp/view?usp=sharing

I wish everyone a rejuvenating, safe and fun Spring Break.  We look forward to seeing you all on March 27th.

Yours in education,

Jennifer Gonzales
